Lions to dish up Christmas treat

Knutsford Lions Club will be putting on its annual Christmas lunch for people in the community who would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day.

For the 27th year a team of ten volunteers will be giving up their time on Christmas Day to host a special lunch at the Stanley Centre for approximately 35 guests.

Lion Jane Webster, who has been involved in running the event for the past 8 years, told me "Anyone who is on their own at Christmas is welcome to come along as well as couples who spend the year looking at each other and need something more exciting on Christmas Day."

Guests will be served a festive drink on arrival followed by a traditional three course Christmas lunch and Christmas carols.

Town Mayor Stewart Gardiner will pop by and Father Christmas is expected to make an appearance to deliver gifts.

Jane said "It is a full Christmas do which we organise because it's needed. To be on your own at Christmas isn't much fun so we do something about it and we have accommodating families who wait for us to come back.

"Some people have been coming for four or five years and whilst most guests are over 70 years old we occasionally have younger people who are on their own, they tend to come and help."

Guests will be collected between 11.30 and 12pm on Christmas Day and returned home by 2.30pm with a mince pie for their tea.

Twenty two people have already booked their place at the Lions Christmas Lunch and anyone else from the Knutsford area who would like to attend is encouraged to call Jane on 01565 633346 to book their place.
