Knutsford Town Council is urging local residents to get involved in next year's torch relay celebrations in the lead up to the Olympic Games.
The Olympic Flame will pass through Knutsford on the morning of 31st May next year with each torch bearer walking or running 300 metres with the iconic torch.
Speaking about the torch relay at this week's town council meeting, Town Mayor Cllr Stewart Gardiner said "Some of our neighbours have been rather more forward in their preparations than we have, but we were under the impression the route was embargoed for several months.
"We need to facilitate things happening to ensure Knutsford is not left behind and is properly represented on 31st May. We need to ensure Knutsford is not seen as the poor relation and has the appropriate decoration and things in place."
The Town Council is keen to hear from any groups or organisations who would like be involved by providing entertainment along the route. They would also like to encourage some decoration along the route and would like bunting to be made so they can attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records with the longest piece of bunting.
Cllr Barbara Coan, who has been in discussion with various people regarding proposals for the torch relay, said "We would welcome any suggestions or ideas about how the town can be involved, please send them to the town clerk or myself and we will consider them."
If you would like to be involved, or have some suggestions for how Knutsford should mark the Olympic Torch Relay please email Cllr Barbara Coan or Town Clerk Steve McQuade with your suggestions as soon as possible as Cllr Coan has her next meeting with the torch relay team at Cheshire East on Tuesday 13th December.
