A Chelford mum's favourite family dish has been picked as the winner of a special fire safety competition by a celebrity chef.
Lysiane Gilmour entered the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service 'Come Cook with Me' recipe competition with Spinach and Pancetta spaghetti, which is a dish that she regularly cooks for her family. The dish was chosen as the winner by celebrity chef Brian Mellor for being the tastiest recipe, which could easily be cooked within 30 minutes. Brian liked the fact that it was also healthy to eat and one which a family could enjoy.
Lysiane's prize was a masterclass cookery lesson at the Brian's prestigious Harthill Cookery School in Cheshire for the winner and three friends.
Evan Morris, Head of Community Safety for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The 'Come Cook with Me' competition was based on the premise that the shorter the cooking time, the less likely someone will be to walk away from their cooking - which is when fires tend to start.
"I would like to thank everyone for entering the competition and ask that people always stay with your cooking, especially when using the hob or the grill as it can only take a few seconds of distraction for a fire to start. Residents should also try to avoid cooking whilst under the influence of alcohol."
During the masterclass Lysiane and her friends learnt how to make party bites, including Moneybag Filo Parcels, Melon and Parma ham skewers, prawn cocktail – with a difference and cheese straws. The class was also filmed and put on the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service website for everyone to follow.
Lysiane Gilmour said: "I always try to feed my children healthy quick meals at home. It's a case of looking in the fridge and making the most of the items available.
"We all enjoyed the evening very much and tried some of the nibbles at a dinner party we hosted recently."
Brian, an award winning Master Chef of Great Britain and former Head Chef at the BBC, said: "This competition was all about finding something that could easily be cooked in 30 minutes and Lysiane's dish fitted this bill. Her dish was quick and easy to prepare and the combination of ingredients worked well."
