A very brave young girl has had her long blonde hair cut off to raise money for charity.

Claudia Cunningham, 10, had been growing her hair since the age of three but decided she wanted it cut because she was fed up with all the time it took to have her hair washed and brushed.

Her mum Patricia initially refused to let her have it cropped so she came up with the idea of having it cut to raise money for a cancer charity.

Claudia, from Macclesfield, said "My idea was to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support not just because mummy would then let me have my hair cut, but because I want to help people who have cancer."

Claudia, whose hair had reached 23 inches in length, had her hair cut at Terence Paul on Wednesday, January 25th. Thanks to Adam Ellerton, Style Director at the King's Street salon, she now has a very stylish bob.

Adam told knutsford.com "Cutting Claudia's hair was such a honour, as I knew just how precious her hair was to her. She is such a admirable little lady and myself and all the team at Terence Paul are very proud to support her in raising money for a very just cause."

Claudia had her hair cut in memory of her uncle Stewart Wells, who died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma when he was a child. January 25th was chosen especially because it was the date of her uncle's birthday.

She was hoping to raise £500 for Macmillan but has already raised a fantastic £840.

Claudia said "I wasn't born but my uncle Stewart died of cancer when he was 8, he is my mum's twin brother and it's not nice when you lose somebody you love. So I want to help people to get better and have people to help them.

"I am really really happy with my hair cut and it's all been for a good cause."

Mum Patricia added "I am over the moon, she's happy, I'm happy and immensely proud of her. I am very happy and lucky to have two wonderful daughters."

Claudia's hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, based in Hereford, who supply wigs for children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Patricia explained "My brother had to have a wig. It was 31 years ago but we still have the wig and it came out not so long ago. Claudia said she wanted little girls who are poorly to have wigs that are made of real hair so they can style them."
