Shrove Tuesday was celebrated early when pancakes races were held on The Moor at the weekend.

Organised by Friends of The Moor (FOTM) local families gathered on Sunday afternoon to join in the fun.

Cllr Vivien Davies, Chairman of Friends of the Moor, said "Pancake races were enjoyed by 22 children and their parents on what turned out to be a fine but very cold day. Six adults also joined in the fun, so we also had a ladies race and a gentleman's race."

The children were divided into age groups and all the winners received a medal with a present from the Tuck Shop for the runners up.

Vivien Davies added "FOTM were helped by CEC Officer Marianne Hodgkinson and six representatives from the Lions who marshalled the event - Clive Heath, David Jones, Brian O'Grady, Rita O'Grady and Mike Goldman their President. We were very glad to have PCSO Clare Shepard and two of her colleagues attending in case of incident or accident.

"Town Mayor Cllr. Stewart Gardiner presented the medals to the winners and was glad to support the FOTM at this fun event.

"A small charge of 50p for children and £1 for adults was made resulting in a total of £20.50 being made from the contributions. This will now go towards the Community Shelter funds, so thank you to all who took part."
